Mr. Mace DeVries

5th Degree Black Belt

Mr DeVries is a native of the Crete area, having attended Balmoral Elementary and graduated Crete-Monee HS. He earned a full scholarship to Northwestern University as an Evans Scholar, which is where he was introduced to the martial arts. His instructors were Douglas Nakane and Rick Whitehead, who encouraged him to become an instructor as well. He graduated NU with a BA in History, a Second Degree Black Belt and a Certified Instructor. Mr. DeVries then went on to teach for various other ATA schools and park district program, but always longed to have a school of his own. In 2003 he saw the opportunity to start a program in his hometown, and then it quickly grew into one of the finest schools in the Chicago Southland.

In addition to the Martial Arts, Mr. DeVries has a long career in Healthcare Management, and is currently a Senior Hospital Network Manager at UnitedHealthcare. He and his wife Dawn DeVries, still live in town, along with their dogs Daisy and Guthrie. He is an avid White Sox fan, and a horrible guitar player.

 

Mr. Dan Clancy

3rd Degree Black Belt

Dan Clancy started his martial arts career in 3rd grade taking Karate at an after school program at Deer Creek Christian School. He stopped to play other sports in middle school, but 2005, during his sophomore year of high school, he joined the ranks at ATA Crete. He recieved his 1st degree black belt in October 2005, and started teaching full time in January 2007. Shortly after he was added to the Staff, and in June of 2007 obtained his 2nd degree black belt. He was awarded the 2009 Trainee Instructor of the Year by the school owners of Region 102 West

Mr. Clancy recieved his Level 2 teacher certification in Oct. 2008, and successfully tested for his 3rd degree in July 2009. Outside of Taekwondo, he is a member of the Hannaberry Jr. horseback riding team, a member of the Casket Company paintball team and is currently an Engineering major with asperations to become a Civil Engineer, and eventually an ATA School owner.
